Byzantium Up Close: Microhistories of a Society

A unique guided tour of the Byzantine Museum of Argos that reveals daily life, art, and spirituality of the Byzantine era.

The program by Eugenia Petropoulou (Museologist-Historical Researcher) is based on the methodologies of microhistory and object biography, as well as principles of museum theater. Rather than highlighting emblematic or aesthetically “powerful” exhibits, the focus shifts to secondary, less visually striking objects, which serve as points of departure for the creation of narrative microhistories. Through participatory and storytelling practices inspired by museum theater, the objects are activated as carriers of experiences and meanings, contributing to an understanding of everyday life, social relations, and value systems in Byzantine society.
