Old Story: A Lament is a dramatic recitation of poetry, myth, and sacred verse dedicated to the great yearning and eternal dream of peace. From the cradle of civilization in Ancient Sumer we will recall our shared cultural and spiritual heritage as Christians, Muslims, and Jews, and give voice to scripture from the Old Testament which bears on the current conflict in our time between the descendants of Abraham’s sons, the half-brothers, Isaac and Ishmael, who are the fathers of the Hebrew and Arab peoples respectively
The harp has been used as an instrument of praise song and as an accompaniment to the myths and sacred stories since the 3rd millennium B.C. It is in the spirit of rekindling this ancient art of praise to put forward at this time a story that celebrates our shared humanity and enables the past to speak, as it has always spoken to the future in tones strangely familiar to us and always with its whispered words of encouragement.
