“On the Steps of Kapodistrias with the Progressive Association of Nafplio ‘Palamedes’”

28 February 2026

Telesilla Talks & Walks offered an immersive historical walking tour of Nafplio, exploring the legacy of Ioannis Kapodistrias.

On Saturday, February 28, the 8th event of Telesilla Talks & Walks, co-organized with the Progressive Association of Nafplio “Palamedes”, successfully took place, offering participants an immersive walking experience of history and memory in the Old Town of Nafplio.

The event, titled “In the Footsteps of Kapodistrias”, highlighted the deep historical and cultural legacy of Ioannis Kapodistrias. Participants began their historical walk at the statue of Kapodistrias and the Governorate, continued to the Cathedral of Agios Georgios and the Church of Agios Spyridon, and concluded at the building of the Progressive Association “Palamedes”, where the valuable historical archive and the ongoing contributions of the association to the city were showcased.

A special highlight was the presentation by Pagona Lagou, Conservator of Antiquities and Works of Art and member of the association, who shared insights on the art, deterioration, and conservation of ecclesiastical icons and churches, linking them with the spiritual and civic life of the city in the 19th century and the political work of Kapodistrias.

The President of the association, Theodosis S. Spantideas, presented the ongoing work and activities of the Progressive Association, as well as the creative path of its art group, emphasizing the active role of the association in the city’s cultural life.

The event received warm support from His Eminence Metropolitan Nektarios of Argolis, as well as the priests of the churches, Fr. Panagiotis Kintis, enabling the activity to take place in these sacred spaces. The enthusiastic participation of the public confirmed that dialogue, historical knowledge, and experiential learning can coexist creatively in public spaces.

As part of this initiative, Telesilla Talks & Walks, inspired by the poet Telesilla of Argos, continues to offer walking and educational experiences that connect culture, nature, and knowledge through dialogue with the place. Through this organization, Steve de Laet and Dianne Title de Laet, President and Executive Director respectively of the Arete Fund, reaffirm their commitment to linking art, education, and local heritage, highlighting Argos not as a city of the past but as a living cultural landscape that continues to inspire.

Telesilla Talks & Walks will continue to organize initiatives in collaboration with local partners, showcasing the history and culture of the region in a lively, participatory, and experiential way.
